Jim Butler was born in Dublin in 1967, and currently lives in Manchester. As well as working as a freelance artist specialising in drawing, collage and printmaking with both private and corporate commissions, he teaches part time on the B.A. Illustration with Animation and the M.A. Media Arts courses at Manchester Metropolitan University (M.M.U.). He is a member of Hot Bed Press, an open access printmaking studio, and was recently elected a member of both the Society of Architectural Illustration and the Society of Graphic Fine Art.

He has had many solo and group shows both in this country and abroad, including: "Out of Line" at the Inspiring Eye Gallery, Manchester; "Stockport Open" at Stockport Art Gallery; "Dessins et Gravures", Galerie Le Petit Chein, Navarrenx, France and "London Artists' Book Fair", ICA, London
