Pamela Knight
Pamela Knight was born and educated in Bristol and studied Fashion and Textiles in Manchester before training as a stage designer. She worked in this field for several years before continuing her art education, training in ceramics at Goldsmiths College, London and Bretton Hall near Wakefield. A summer school, learning the techniques of collagraph and carborundum printmaking from artist Peter Wray in York, has led to ceramics being put on the back burner!
Pamela has contributed to numerous group exhibitions since 1995, including Beverley Art Gallery Open Exhibition, Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, Leeds City Art Gallery and the Pyramid Gallery in York. She has also exhibited in Edinburgh, both at the Kingfisher Gallery and Hanover Fine Art, Castlegate House Gallery in Cockermouth as well as galleries around Yorkshire and the North East.
Landscape and the natural world are the main inspiration for Pamela's work. Images are developed from visual stimuli such as patterns and shapes created by light and shadow. She enjoys strong colour and texture and contrasts in tone.
The collagraph technique often involves the building up an image from found textures as well as direct mark-making in a variety of media. This is then combined with carborundum printmaking allowing a rich dark tone to be achieved when printed. The technique means that very few images from each plate are possible so editions are frequently very small.
